Getting my cookery on….

So, its Monday morning, I’m haning out in my grey waffle textured long johns, I’m sipping a glass of soymilk, eating a piece of whole wheat toast spread with nutella, and munching on some cubbed pineapple and watermelon. This bi-polar Georgian weather is leaving me insane, flakes of snow one day, rain the next, and the a surreal amount of unnatural sunshine on a chilly day.

Since making the leap to vegetarianism I’ve been making good use of my free time and have been exparamenting with recipes and making dishes that are rich in veggies and that taste good, trying to pack as much flavor as possible into everything I make. I’ve been cooking for myself, and for a few friends, and when my father is feeling brave I head over to his place and try to make him a little something too.

Here are a few pics of some of the wonderful things I’ve been making:

Roasted veggie "tacos" with an avacado citrus salad and a tropical fruit salad.

Wonderful eggplant with ricotta, fresh tomatoe sauce, and lots of basil.

Roasted Sweet Potato, Butternut, Carrot and Chipoltle soup, with soft egg floating on top, and tons of yummy garnish for texture.

BBQ-ed Tofu Pizza, homemade sauce, avacados, carmelized onions, tofu, and a little aged cheddar and green onions.

Mac and Cheese! Made us of a little left over feta, ricotta, and other cheeses. Shared this with friends with a fantastic spinach salad.

Mmmm....Mac and Cheese. Be jealous!

Its nice to be cooking for myself, it takes my mind off of missing home a little. I cant wait to get home to make dinner for Al, and maybe the rest of you, if you’re nice.

  1. well, you always were careful about what you took into your body!! LOL Great cooking, my mouth is watering….well it was when I took a glimpse at the chef YOU look FANTASTIC!

  2. L to the izzooooooo

can’t wait to share my 20 years of vegetarian & vegan knowledge with ya…though my last 11 years as a meat eater won’t help at all…hehe

definitely google Mollie Katzen. She’s the author of many vegetarian cookbooks i depended on years ago and grew up eating recipes from. she’s part of the Moosewood Collective up in Ithica NY where the Moosewood Cafe/Restaurant has been slamming out tasty veggie dishes since the 70s to hungry Cornell/Ithica students, locals and travelers.

the Moosewood Cookbook, Enchanted Broccoli Forrest and their newer menu cookbooks are incredible…

also check out Alice Waters’ Chez Panisse Veggie cookbook — you know i loves me some Alice Waters and save for Mustard’s or French Laundry up in wine country/norcal…Chez Panisse is hands-down my fave place to dine in the Bay area when i have an extra $400 to drop on a dinner for 2 😉 BUT…the Veggie book will give you all of the high end, gorgeous veggie dishes you’ve been craving.

Please stay away from ANYTHING by “Mark Bittmann”…especially his retarded “how to cook everything” book. it is an EPIC FAIL and makes me and every other chef out there want to gouge my eyeballs out and use a lemon reamer to squeege out the ocular juicies left behind…

    just sayin’…smeriously…NO BITTMANN EVARRRRR

  3. I miss your cooking too………… :o(

Do you remember that time when we were in high school and we make that amazing breakfast and sat on your patio in that big green wrought iron table and just hung out and ate the bestest breakfast ever? We need to do that again!
